El objetivo del artículo es abordar la relectura del marxismo pla nteada por el intelectual italiano Lelio Basso en los años sesenta y setenta, poniendo el foco en su caracterización del Estado, la propuesta de estrategia revolucionaria y la concepció n de transición al socialismo que postula en sus escritos, para realizar luego una breve reconstrucción del debate que sus ideas generaron en Chile en un momento clave del gobierno de la Unidad Popular (1970 1973). Las tesis formuladas por Basso resultan f ructíferas para repensar de manera original y más compleja al marxismo, y sopesar las potencialidades y limitaciones de la truncada experiencia encabezada por Salvador Allende, a la luz de la coyuntura política que vive en América Latina.
The objective of this article is to address the rereading of Marxism proposed by the Italian intellectual Lelio Basso in the sixties and seventies, focusing on his characterization of t he State, the proposal for a revolutionary strategy and the conception of transitio n to socialism that he postulates. Subsequently, a brief reconstruction of the debate that his ideas generated in Chile at a key moment of the Popular Unity government (1970 1973) is carried out. The theses formulated way, and to weigh the potentialities and limitations of the truncated experience led by Salvador Allende in light of the current pol itical situation in Latin America. by Basso prove to be fecund to rethink Marxism in an original and more complexse
